On a yearly basis the OFIFC – IYC invite the Provincial Youth body to the annual youth gathering held in July in coordination with the OFIFC Annual General Meeting. The provincial youth body consist of Urban Indigenous Youth ages 18 – 24 and are active members and leaders within their Friendship Centre community. The annual Youth Gathering is utilized to address youth needs, provide networking opportunities, workshops and provide training and skill development. This is also the time for the OFIFC— IYC to host discussion on IYC business and conduct their elections.
The OFIFC – IYC will determine themes, agendas, and topics to cover for the gathering. As well as aid in Elder selection, development of workshops/trainings, excursions, evening activities, and community outreach. To finish the Gathering the IYC will host their elections to fill vacancies on their council.
The goal of the Annual Youth Gathering is to bring Indigenous Youth leaders across Ontario together to discuss their yearly activities, initiatives and youth success stories. While also providing them the opportunity to identify the concerns within their community. The information and knowledge gained through the gathering will be used by the IYC to develop their future action plans and youth initiatives to better support and provide opportunities to the youth collective.
