The OFIFC’s learning framework, they learn, documents Indigenous learning principles engaged within the Friendship Centre Movement in Ontario. The principles communicate traditional, urban, and community concepts of learning that have grown in the Movement over time.

they learn (OFIFC, 2025) offers a guiding framework for educational and learning-focused initiatives, projects, and directives for the OFIFC and in urban Indigenous communities we serve. It also helps describe Indigenous knowledge transfer in urban Indigenous communities and the critical role Friendship Centres play as sites of learning with long established infrastructures, principles, practices.

The framework incorporates value-based story and visual elements for nurturing understanding about what learning looks like, how it feels, and is experienced in the Friendship Centre Movement. The framework also highlights lifelong learning, diversity of cultures and communities, as well as the critical role of Friendship Centres in learning.
