In order to end violence against Indigenous women, the OFIFC works to foster coordinated, strategic and culturally competent approaches that can be implemented by Friendship Centres.
The OFIFC’s Strategic Framework to End Violence Against Indigenous Women, launched in 2007, provides a framework for systemic change and guides our work with partners and allies.

This seminal Framework, co-authored by the OFIFC, the Ontario Native Women’s Association, and the Métis Nation of Ontario, set in motion ground-breaking progress on the fight to end violence in Indigenous communities. Eight strategic directions for government guide policy and program development aimed at ending violence and promoting healing and strengthened Indigenous communities.
Working collaboratively to end violence in Indigenous communities, the Indigenous Caucus of the Executive Committee on Ending Violence Against Indigenous Women provided a joint submission to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The submission sets out five guiding principles for the implementation of final recommendations and outlines a plan of action to establish a National Strategy to End Violence Against Indigenous women and girls.
